GAP ANALYSIS: First Step to Meeting the New Standards
In a variety of ways, B Lab’s new standards don’t resemble B Lab’s old standards. We recommend that the first step a company takes is to determine what requirements your company is already meeting and identify which you are not. Below are 2 tools to help you conduct this exercise:
B Lab Self-Assessment
The Self-Assessment referenced above that SMEs following Route 2 and Large companies certifying under the New Standards must complete can be found by logging onto to the new B Impact platform.
It includes:
-
It will list the requirements for your company, based on your track for Year 0 (Certification on the New Standards is designed in a phased approach across 5 years). You have the option to indicate the status on each sub-requirement as well as assign a person responsible and a due date to summarise your company performance in this area.
-
The data from the Requirements section is consolidated to an overview dashboard to see what requirements you are meeting and where you need to improve at a glance. Here you can see the number of requirements by status and filter according Impact Topic, Status, Assigned Person and Due Date.
For instructions on how to opt into the Self-Assessment, read this Knowledge Base article.
IMPORTANT: Please confirm your company track BEFORE you open the self-assessment. When the company’s attributes (or track) is updated AFTER a self-assessment is created, it does NOT update the self-assessment. To generate a self-assessment on the updated company attributes, you must make a new 'dummy' account with the correct information.
IGP IMPACT ROADMAP
We created a practical, spreadsheet-based tool designed to help companies efficiently navigate the new B Corp standards. It translates sub-requirements and compliance criteria into clear, step-by-step actions, grouped into actionable themes tailored by company size and sector. By highlighting outputs and impacted stakeholders, the tool makes it easier for teams to understand responsibilities, prioritize next steps, and coordinate efforts across departments.
We will demonstrate how companies are using this tool at our next IGP Mixer on Tuesday, June 10 at 12noon ET..
